World Refugee Day

2019-06-06T17:57:57-07:00

June 20th is World Refugee Day. 65 million people around the world are seeking refuge. Locally, at Hills of Peace, we seek to work together with our neighbours in faith through the community group, "Refugees and Friends Together" (RAFT) in support of the sponsorship to newcomers to our community. Within the next few months, RAFT is preparing to receive a new family. If you would like to volunteer to be part of a supporting "Settlement Team" for a term of one year (from the date of family's arrival), or have other interests in supporting refugee resettlement in Kamloops, please send an email to: raft@kamloopsunited.ca It is always important to remember in prayer newcomers, refugees, and internally displaced persons. As we recognize World Refugee Day, seek ways to be better informed about how to support the work of local, national, and international organizations who assist those who are most in need around the world. As a Lutheran church, we hold up and support the world of Canadian Lutheran World Relief: https://www.clwr.org/get-involved/refugee-sponsorship May God bless and guide us in our work and service in the world.

Holy Week Schedule

2019-03-27T00:11:39-07:00

Lent is the 40 days leading up to Easter where Christians are invited to reflect on where we need God's help most in our lives. In these 40 days, we take extra time for prayer and reflection. This more somber time in the year, then also adds to the festive nature of Easter by providing a contrast from quiet reflection to joyous celebrating. Sunday, April 14th includes a procession with palms for Palm Sunday (10:30am) Maundy Thursday, April 18th, 7:00pm worship with foot washing, Holy Communion, then stripping of the altar and worship space. Good Friday, April 19th, 10:30am is a simple, somber service offered for families and all ages with Bible readings and the choir singing. Saturday, April 20th we are offering an 11:00pm Easter Vigil service with readings from creation to resurrection as we celebrate our new life in Christ with Holy Communion and joyful singing. Easter Sunday, April 21st includes a 9:30am Easter Breakfast 10:30 am: Festive worship with choir singing 12:00 noon: Chocolate Easter Egg Hunt for children
