Leadership

At Hills of Peace, we know that everyone had gifts to share. As children and youth participate in worship over the years, they also have the opportunity for leadership.

During the service, children are invited to help bring forward the gifts for communion, assist as acolytes, serve as assisting ministers, read scripture aloud, lead pre-written prayers, and fully participate in worship.

Each week, children are encouraged to participate and lead; as they grow up and have greater capacity (e.g., reading aloud to an audience), they are welcomed and invited to participate in more challenging leadership roles.

Each year, in the season of Epiphany (usually January), the season of light, new acolytes (around 7 years old / Grade 2) are invited to learn about the role of candle-lighting and simple assisting in worship.  Then they are welcomed as new acolytes, helping in worship.
